The infectious laugh of Janice Clark, also known as Grandma Scotland, helped another picture book become a worldwide success.
The Scottish granny’s latest hit is a September 22 video where she mocks Dawn McMillan and Ross Kinnaird’s I Need a New Bum! Read about a boy who decided he needed a new ass after discovering a crack in his ass. The video has over a million views on YouTube and Facebook.
Earlier this fall, a video of Clark reading her young grandsons Craig Smith and Katz Cowley’s “Strange Ass” went viral, propelling the book to the top of several bestseller lists. first place. The Wonky Donkey continues to hold No. 1 on PW’s picture book charts.
Originally published by New Zealand publisher Oratia Books in 2012, the book was acquired by Dover Publications at the Frankfurt Book Fair and published in the US in 2014.
Dover publisher Jennifer Feldman explained why the company was initially drawn to the book: “Kids love absurdity, it’s absurd.” She said I need humor in a new ass !
