Considered one of the most popular entertainers in Hawaii, or “Sistah Robi” as many of us call her, Robi Kahakalau is without a doubt one of our most versatile singers. She has received multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards for excellence in the Hawaiian recording industry. Her unique voice, creativity, and mastery of seven languages, one of which is Hawaiian, make her unique.
Audiences who saw her perform live were captivated by the enthusiasm and sheer joy she radiated. Her earthy demeanor, bright personality and infectious smile complement her as an artist, allowing her to bridge the gaps between young and old, as well as cultural, ethnic, linguistic and musical barriers.
A third-generation Hawaiian musician born and raised in Germany, “Hapa Hawaiian – Half German” first moved to Hawaii in 1980. “The moment she got off the plane,” Robbie knew, “she had found her new home.” She was determined to learn and absorb everything about her Hawaiian roots. Little did she know that 10 years later she was a Hawaiian language teacher at the University of Hawaii and a successful recording artist.
Robbie started singing professionally when she was a teenager. But it wasn’t until 1990, when she began recording and vocalizing for a Hawaiian-style band, that her distinctive voice was widely recognized, and her musical talent was admired throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

Her second solo CD, Keiki o ka `Āina, released in 1997, showcased Robbie’s skills as a successful singer, reflecting her broad musical style and her ability to bring together some of Hawaii’s finest musical talents ability together.
For Millennium, Kahakalau released her third solo CD. “Everything I Want,” articulates Robbie’s love of diversity and her talents as a singer and skilled linguist.
